The oil crisis in early 70-ies made Rolex wanna change the name Daytona from their dials. For Rolex and it’s dial maker Singer it would had been much easier to leave the red Daytona print on the dial. SINGER, From Concept to Series. The watch, called the Chronosport, featured a Singer “Paul Newman” dial in a unique asymmetrical two-register layout, along with a rotating dive-time bezel and a tapered integrated bracelet. Just 20 prototypes of the original watch are believed to have been made, and they were never offered to the public.
