My Explorer 1 (14270) is absolutely dressy enough for any business occasion .
A good, solid Rolex sports watch like the Submariner, Sea-Dweller, Explorer, Air-King, or GMT . My Explorer 1 (14270) is absolutely dressy enough for any business occasion when I wear a suit and tie, whether it be court, an important client meeting, or a board meeting. While I might wear a more traditional "dress watch" on the very rare occasions that I wear a tux, I think the Explorer I is absolutely suitable for anything but black tie .A good, solid Rolex sports watch like the Submariner, Sea-Dweller, Explorer, Air-King, or GMT Master II, for example, will stand you in good stead; a massive selection of easy-to-fit NATO or Zulu straps will broaden that watch’s horizons significantly. Between the smooth dial DJ on Oyster, OP41 and the Explorer 39/40mm, why does the only the Explorer 1 to come come across to some as "cannot be worn with a suit?" Personal preference to an extent, but ive seen many a people wear .
Among the casual/sports/tool Rolex, the Explorer II has a slimmer profile as well as simpler more elegant design. IMO it is more suit friendly than say a Sub/Daytona/GMT/SeaDweller. It is OK with a suit, as say for work/business, but . If you can wear a submariner with a suit, you can most definitely wear an explorer. Based on the photos though I think the Datejust (is it the 41 or II?) and the Explorer will look the best on your wrist.
The Rolex Explorer is in many ways the quintessential dressy tool watch from Rolex’s Oyster Perpetual collection — less flashy than the GMT-Master, less bulky than the Submariner, while still rooted, like those two models, in a history of adventure and discovery. The Rolex Explorer ref 1016 is the watch of choice by the creater of James Bond! Ian Fleming’s Rolex . The famed author once wrote, “A gentleman’s choice of timepiece says as much about him as does his Saville Row suit.”
Me too, I love my Explorer but don’t think I could ever wear with an actual suit. Maybe a casual sport coat and jeans or khakis. Just my preference
Whether you are dressing up for a formal black-tie event or simply throwing on a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt to hang out at a pool-side barbecue over the weekend, there is always the perfect Rolex watch to suit both the occasion and your outfit. I just recently got my white dial Rolex Explorer II. Would you wear it with a suit to a wedding or a business meeting? It's the only watch I have.
